Managing Microsoft 365 Integration Access and Credential Errors

Last updated: October 15, 2026

This article explains how to remove Microsoft 365 integration access from a tenant and resolve common authentication failures related to invalid or missing client secrets.

These issues may occur during initial integration setup, credential rotation, or when decommissioning a client environment.

Applies To

  • Microsoft 365 integrations

  • Entra ID App Registration–based authentication

  • Cloud scanning and Microsoft 365 monitoring

Removing Microsoft 365 Integration Access

When This Is Required

You may need to remove Microsoft 365 access when:

  • Offboarding a client

  • Decommissioning an integration

  • Replacing credentials or app registrations

  • Preventing further Microsoft 365 access

Remove the Integration

Removing access requires changes within the tenant, not only in Microsoft Entra.

  1. Access the tenant.

  2. Open Settings.

  3. Select Integrations.

  4. Locate Microsoft 365.

  5. Select Configure.

  6. Remove the existing Microsoft 365 integration credentials.

Deleting the App Registration in Microsoft Entra alone does not remove the stored integration configuration from the tenant.

Common Credential Error: Invalid Secret Value

Authentication may fail when an invalid or missing client secret is entered. A common cause is entering the Client Secret ID instead of the Client Secret Value.

Why This Happens

In Microsoft Entra:

  • The Client Secret ID remains visible.

  • The Client Secret Value is displayed only when the secret is created.

If the secret value is entered incorrectly, expires, or was not recorded when created, the integration cannot authenticate.

Resolve Credential Errors

Confirm the Secret Value

Verify that the Microsoft 365 integration contains the Client Secret Value, not the Client Secret ID.

Create a New Secret

If the existing secret value is unavailable or expired:

  1. Open the App Registration in Microsoft Entra.

  2. Create a new client secret.

  3. Copy and securely store the Client Secret Value when it is generated.

Update the Microsoft 365 Integration

  1. Access the tenant.

  2. Open Settings > Integrations.

  3. Locate Microsoft 365 and select Configure.

  4. Enter the new Client Secret Value.

  5. Select Verify Credentials.

  6. Save the integration after the credentials are successfully verified.
